Better management of shortages through
identification, automation and action plans
The Drug Shortage App from LogicStream Health proactively identifies potential shortages and gives hospitals and health systems an early warning, often eight- to 10-days ahead of publicly available sources.
This early warning, combined with automation to bring all the information related to medications (utilization, ordering, inventory, packages, upcoming shipments, fulfillment rate and more) into one place greatly decreases the amount of time, energy, and cost often associated with drug shortages. The App includes Drug Shortages Bulletin information published by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and incorporates the ASHP Guidelines on Managing Drug Product Shortages. This case study was published in conjunction with ASHP.
Highlighted in the case study are situations that led to:
- Annual savings estimated at $1M in cost-avoidance
- A 75% reduction in time spent managing shortages
- Annual labor savings estimated at $300,000
- And more . . .
